emily jane loves to hate: velvet

i had mixed feelings when i saw that velvet was in this season. my immediate reaction was sheer terror because my mind immediately went to this:

the dreaded crushed velvet leotard. this leotard instills fear in any woman who grew up participating in gymnastics.

once the flashbacks subsided, i learned how to appreciate velvet, that is when it's being worn outside of a gym. my first velvet purchase was this cute shirt from forever 21:

things that are great about this shirt: 

1. the pattern is the only part about this shirt that is velvet aka no velvet overload.

2. you can wear this shirt with jeans to go out or put a blazer on top of it and wear it to work.

3. the color is an amazing shade of dark navy that almost looks black in some lighting.

i had mixed feelings when i saw that neon colors were in this season. at first, i was repulsed (80's fashion should stay in the 80's, in my opinion), but now i've learned that you can do neon colors in a chic way.

neon pink and black makes for a killer combo. i was able to wear this shirt under a blazer and it really brightened up my work wardrobe.
