emily jane loves to hate: neon

i had mixed feelings when i saw that neon colors were in this season. at first, i was repulsed (80's fashion should stay in the 80's, in my opinion), but now i've learned that you can do neon colors in a chic way.

here are a few neon items i picked up to add to my collection:

this neon yellow clutch might just be my favorite thing ever. thank you, target.

neon pink and black makes for a killer combo. i was able to wear this shirt under a blazer and it really brightened up my work wardrobe.

you can also add neon into your wardrobe (if you dare):

when in doubt, just trust the fashion goddess, olivia palermo, and just add one neon piece to your outfit.

emily jane loves: eye make-up that stays put

like most women, i love experimenting with eye make-up. it's a fun way to express myself, and it's the only thing that helps me fight the constant uphill battle of forever looking 16 years old.

sadly, my skin doesn't always enjoy keeping eye make-up on, and within two hours of applying my make-up, i look like this:

i love beyonce just as much as the next person, but that's not exactly the look i'm trying to achieve. here is what i've found to remedy this unsightly problem.

1. apply an alcohol-free toner over your eyelids before you apply any make-up.  i prefer neutrogena's alcohol-free toner.
2. apply a long lasting eye cream as your base. i enjoy mac's paint pots (try to use a neutral color if you're just using it as a base).

3. after you've finished applying your eye make-up, use a finishing spray. urban decay makes an amazing spray that i should buy stock in.

and that's it. you can party until the bar closes and still look like this:

emily jane loves: peplum

peplum always used to scare me because i was afraid of looking too "hip-e", but contrary to my suspicions, it's actually slimming because it highlights your waist. yes!

here are some other ways you can wear peplum:
